Travel Guide to Wat Phra Kaeo
Wat Phra Kaeo, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is Thailand's most revered temple, situated within the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok's historic Phra Nakhon district. Established in the 18th century, this stunning temple complex consists of over 30 intricate structures, each showcasing the rich artistry and cultural heritage of Thailand.
The temple's centerpiece is the Emerald Buddha, a 45 cm tall statue adorned in gold robes, believed to date back over 2,000 years, although its exact origins remain a mystery. The statue is so sacred that only the King of Thailand is permitted to touch it. Three times a year, during a special ceremony, the king changes the Emerald Buddha's garments to mark the changing of the seasons, a ritual that is steeped in tradition and significance.
